Asian Blues: How Desi Sound is Shaping New Music

Mar 16, 2017

2:00pm – 2:20pm CT

British-Pakistani Guitarist, Singer & Songwriter Aziz Ibrahim (Stone Roses, Asia, Simply Red) explores the emergence of Asian Blues, music rooted in the South Asian diaspora (Desi) experience balancing lives of contrasting cultures and identities. That intersection is a creative sweet spot for South Asian artists juxtaposing Indian & Pakistani classical, folk, and Sufi rhythm and melody with rock, R&B, and Hip Hop to create the unique sound defining Asian Blues.

Ibrahim will share insight and anecdotes illustrating how the increasingly sought after Desi sound is influencing mainstream music.
