Infinity Street

As waves lap on the shore in the opening moments of Secretly Susan, you know you're in for a journey. Sui Zhen, aka Susan, aka Melbourne-based Dream Beat artist Becky Sui Zhen, is at the helm. Drifting by tiki beach parties and nostalgic Sound Systems, Becky's ethereally radiant jams lead you on a path to positive enlightenment.

Inspired by Japanese Lovers Rock, 80s Electro-Bossanova and Dubby-Lounge Pop which she discovered on holidays in Japan and London as a participant at the Red Bull Music Academy, Secretly Susan is truly a World album wrapped neatly in a an accessible cloak and tied with a bow.

With the release of her first self-produced LP, listeners can expect to be immersed in the larger narratives that surround Becky’s artistic practice. From the female-empowered tropical first single, "Hangin' On", to the banal pastel dystopia of her "Infinity Street" video, these colorful, surreal and staged landscapes allow Becky’s take on pop music to sit within its own uncanny terrain.

Secretly Susan comes as a follow-up to two sold out EPs , Female Basicand Body Reset on Tokyo labels Eskers and Teto, respectively in 2014. After her electronic experimentation with ethereal techno-pop and minimal down-tempo 808-lead tracks, the new LP marks a return to more traditional vocal-led pop songs and more firmly showcases her studio chops.

With over tens years of experience performing in various lineups, Becky has found a special synergy in her current live band comprising fellow Melbourne residents, Alec Marshall (Hot Palms, Why Don’t You Believe Me Records) and Ashley Bundang (Totally Mild, Zone Out). The trio have captivated audiences alongside acts such as Majical Cloudz, Toro y Moi and Julia Holter as well as at recent events including Splendour In The Grass, Listen Out, Sugar Mountain, CMJ, and Vivid at the Sydney Opera House.
