Designing Games from a New Perspective
Saturday, March 19
12:30PM - 1:30PM
Austin Convention Center
531 E 4th St
Exploring the perspectives of people other than your own can lead to innovative concepts. But who are we as designers to present a subject that is not directly linked to our own experiences? Through case studies, Roy and Sherida will show how you can make a game centered on topics outside of your own background in a respectful manner. They will talk about how this not only made them better designers, but also taught them something very valuable about themselves in the process. The takeaway: a personal method to designing new and innovative — but authentic and relevant — stories and concepts, while also learning more about yourself. People from all disciplines are welcome.

After graduating from the study Virtual Theater and Games at the University of the Arts Utrecht, Roy co-founded Wispfire together with three other graduates and friends. Roy is an indie developer, theater maker and writer dedicated to making story-driven games with moral choices, which challenge players to think about their position in society.
At the same time, he aims to use his knowledge of dramaturgy to make games which resonate with a broad audience and feel distinctly different in tone from most other story-driven games on the market.Hide the rest
