Born on the island of Trinidad and Tobago and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, the budding artist only recently took his pen game seriously in 2011 while working as a manager at a streetwear boutique in downtown ATL. After dabbling in freestyle rap while growing up in high school, Trinidad decided to give music another try and assembled his break out single “All Gold Everything” off of his debut mixtape titled “Don’t Be S.A.F.E.” in late 2012. Before the year ended, “All Gold Everything” dominated the music stratosphere, reaching top 5 at urban mainstream radio, while garnering a staggering online presence with over 15 million combined postings and 9.6 million VEVO views. Trinidad James gained even more fans at each of his high-energy live shows, including one for the books at New York’s infamous Santos Playhouse. The island-bred artist linked up with Atlanta indie label Think It’s A Game Records as one of the industry’s most sought after overnight successes, and eventually inked a deal with Def Jam Records which re-released his debut project “Don’t Be S.A.F.E.” that won James his first gold single selling over 500,000 copies of “All Gold Everything” and released the remix featuring verses by T.I., Young Jeezy, and 2 Chainz.
James saw wild success in 2015 as one of the songwriters on Mark Ronson “Uptown Funk ft. Bruno Mars”, which won a Grammy and was the top selling download of that year selling more than 5.3M downloads and seeing ten straight weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. James went on to create his own remix of “Uptown Funk” released on RCA Records and produced by Bruno Mars. James was also nominated for the Ashford & Simpson Songwriters Award for his work on the song.
