Javier Blake (singer-guitarist), and Kiko Blake (drummer) formed the band in late 90s, in their small hometown of Matamoros, Tamaulipas. Soon Ricci Pérez (guitarist), and Alejandro Luque (bassist), joined the ranks and started playing in the local Matamoros scene. The band went off to college in Monterrey, Nuevo León. Soon thereafter, the four-piece joined the city’s burgeoning punkrock scene, soon getting noticed by people all around the country by their unique way of making melodic punk rock in spanish. Eventually they got a record deal hooking up with Toy Hernandez, the man behind Control Machete, who signed them to his indie label Sones del Mexside.
The group’s 2001 debut “Extrañando Casa”, was well received when it came out, earning them the distinction and opened road for the band for more vastly shows in the entire country. Out of nowhere the band decided to take a break to finish school and other personal matters.
After 2+ years they got back together only to find out their debut album was now put up to cult status, with a tour across the whole country that put them as one of the pioneers of the Mexican punk rock scene.
They started working on new songs and began production for a second album co-producing it with Mauricio Terrazina (Zurdok) and soon develop the bands second and most acclaimed album “Defecto Perfecto”.
Defecto Perfecto is blessed with loud, punchy guitars and sharp well-rounded compositions like "Veneno es Antidoto (S.O.S.)", "Sismo" and “Sognare” which made the rounds on Mexican modern rock-oriented radio stations.
The album made a big impact on México’s rock scene, was certified Gold by it sales and open bigger shows and festivals to the band. They were nominated in the MTV Video Music Awards Latin America[1] in three categories winning one as “Mejor Artista Norte”, also performing their hit “Sognare” on the ceremony.
In 2007 Ricci Pérez left the band for personal reasons and the rest of the band started working on songs for their third album “Sirenas”.
Sirenas was recorded in early 2008 in Los Angeles, California. Self-produced by themselves with the help of Robert Carranza as engineer, the band was now looking for a different sound which somehow separated them from the rest of the bands they were associated with at one point, and the result was a more organic-classic rock approach to the sound and composition. Sirenas was released in august 2008 and Efren Baron joined the band to fill lead guitar duties.
Songs like “Control”, “Las luces de ésta ciudad” and “Tan fuerte y tan fragil” the band once again toured the record in Mexico, South America and for the first time a real tour across the United states with all the venues being packed by fans that waited too long for Division to visit their city.
In 2011 Ricci Perez returned to the band after a four year hiatus and soon the band (this time with a 3 guitar line up) started working on their fourth album.
Brian McTernan is a producer the band always wanted to work with, and this time around that was possible for the recording of the fourth album. 6 weeks were spent on Baltimore’s Salad Days Studio and the result was a big statement from the band achieving a big, personal sound which was released under the album title “Division”, released in November 2012.
By the end of 2015 the band went back to the studio this time to work on a different releaese format, a five song EP entitled “Secretos”, with a release date for February 2016.
