After playing SXSW 2015, the band decided to change its name to Kapitol. While the band received outstanding feedback for their music, the common issue brought up by SXSW attendees was that the name Coffeehouse suggests a singer/songwriter type of music, not the epic soaring yet driving style of music the band were delivering. Although such a name change meant basically having to start from scratch, the band’s actual history and numbers are impressively backed by more than 200,000 views on Youtube, over 200,000 streams on Spotify, over 20,000 Twitter followers and more than 14,000 fans on Facebook.
The band is currently working on their second studio album to be produced by Pablo Stipicic, whose resume includes names such as Aleks Syntek, Maite Perroni, Denisse Rosenthal among others, including collaborations with Coco Stambuk.
Kapitol es: Francisco Martinez (lead vocals), Sebastián Fontecilla (guitars & keyboards), Óscar Lama (guitars and vocals) & Cristóbal Vives (drums and percussion). It all started when Francisco met Sebastián through a friend. They started an acoustic project with no major ambitions but it started shaping up pretty quickly, forcing them to search for more musicians to start an official band. Óscar joined the band in July 2011, but it wasn’t until the arrival of Cristóbal in October that same year, that the band was officially formed.
The band is set to continue along their path of growth. Fans can expect lots more great new music and exciting live shows.
