Canon’s road hasn’t always been lined with success and excitement. Born in a middle class neighborhood in Chicago IL filled with violence and crime, he and his family were forced to journey through out the state in hopes of finding a much safer climate. His mother, who at the time worked for Moody Bible Institute, introduced him to Christ. He served with the rest of his family at his grandfather’s church but didn’t really experience true transformation. The end results were of him getting involved in negative activity.
Throughout this time though, Canon grew in his desire to both know Christ fully and to rap. He began attending “The House” which was a church where Hip Hop shaped the culture. He was then discipled by the pastor as well as others; the outcome was him growing in his walk with the Lord and maturing into a man of God.
He then moved to Memphis to attend Bible College. It was here where he reconnected with Reach Records’ Lecrae and Derek Minor. He ended up leaving school early and began doing life with these emcees. He was challenged by them to use his experiences and share it through his music, which led to him releasing “The Great Investment” mix tape in 2009. Through the success of his mix-tape he began to gain the attention of people all over the world who wanted to hear more from him. His big break was when he was featured on Lecrae’s Rehab: The Overdose, which then led to him signing with Reflection Music Group in 2011.
