IAN was originally the solo project of Jilian Medford or (IAN), a nickname given to her in High School when she joined a Skate Crew. She started playing under the name when she arrived in Boston to Study at Berklee College of Music, after growing up in Los Angeles. Jilian released her first EP in 2013 titled "Have you ever loved anything this Much?" Tim Cheney (current drummer) attended a basement show where Jilian was performing and approached her about collaborating. The two started playing together under the IAN moniker and immediately hit the road for a short and cold New England winter tour in March of 2014. Upon returning they began configuring the songs for recording and enlisted bassist, Damien Scalise to complete the trio.
