Far From Alaska is a rock band from Natal, Rio Grande do Norte (Brazil) founded in the beginning of 2012 made up of known and experienced names in the music scene in Natal: Emmily Barreto (vocals), Cris Botarelli (synth, lap steel and vocals), Edu Filgueira (bass), Rafael Brasil (guitar), and Lauro Kirsch (drums). Maybe it’s because of the team of veterans, who have played in bands such as Talma&Gadelha, Planant, Calistoga and Venice, that the news of launching FFA was received with great expectations by the local public, which eventually led to good exposure for their first single, “Thievery”, release in September of 2012, and to being booked to play at the Festival do Dosol (Brazil) in November that same year. The big surprise was the victory in the contest Som Pra Todos, organized by Portal Terra, Banco do Brasil and Deckdisc. The prize was a concert at the 2012 edition of the renowned Planeta Terra Festival, in São Paulo, and a distribution contract with the record company in Rio de Janeiro. Since then, with the support of Shirley Manson (Garbage), media appearances grew and the band has experienced great reception by media in the music world, which has praised the band with positive reviews of concerts and music releases. The band’s first EP, Stereochrome, released in 2012, contains four songs and was recorded at Estúdio Dosol (Natal - RN), produced by Dante Augusto (Fukai, Calistoga, The Sinks) and mixed at Estúdio Costella (São Paulo - SP) by Chuck Hipolitho. Now in May of 2014, the band presents their first album, modeHuman, with 15 tracks recorded in November of 2013 at Estúdio Tambor (Deck), in Rio de Janeiro. The album was mixed by Pedro Garcia (Planet Hemp) and mastered by Chris Hanzsek, at Hanzsek Audio (Seattle - USA). With a style that’s hard to define, Far From Alaska has extremely diverse influences, resulting in a genre proved to be, at least, slightly interesting. They do guarantee, however, that it is rock.
