G-Jet was born in Columbus, Texas, a small town about an hour west of Houston. “Growing up, family was all we had. Even though my parents split up, they were both there for us.” Witnessing his stepfathers and other family members drug abusing ways, G became more distant. With his little brothers, he always looked passed the negative into a more positive bigger picture. However growing up in the country without money, the opportunities for G were very limited. In high school, G started freestyling with friends and found he had a love for it; but with all the tension and drama at home, G-Jet began to spiral into a pattern of depression. “I think the medication messed me up more than any depression could do itself.” He began popping pills and drinking alcohol and codein cough syrup. “I had to check myself, because I have little brothers that look up to me, so I wont pop shit now.” By this time, he had already dropped out of school and was on probation. He got his probation revoked for not doing his community service, which led to the fledgling artist spending months in county jail. However, this proved to be a learning experience. “They said I’d be back. I’m not.” He got out, started freestyling and entering battles in and around Houston. “I was always a writer. Just not on beats.” In 2009, G performed his first show, and the rest is history. Now in 2015, G's buzz is growing quickly. Transcending from being a crowd favorite in the Texas battle scene, G-Jet has emerged as a talented songwriter, releasing two mixtapes and being prominently featured on the 2014 A3C Volume 4 compilation. With SXSW approaching, G-Jet is hard at work on his forthcoming debut album, Die Rich, slated to be released later this year.
