URSS bajo el árbol is the name of a musical project, born in Mexico City in 2009. Introspective, conceptual, multi-layered and diverse lyrics that challenge conventional standards are some of the words that could describe their music. Their main goal is to create, evolve and involve all listeners into their journey, as they are able to make each song part of their own. URSS bajo el árbol is part of the emerging independent mexican bands of this decade, standing out for their fast growth and importance among the "indie" rock mexican's scene. In 2011, they independently released their first EP "Lineas Mentales" as a 12" vynil disc, produced by Jorge Aja, including a collaboration from Adrian Terrazas (The Mars Volta/El Regimen) in one of the tracks. "Contra si mismo" was the first single off this EP, which was programmed in the most important radio stations in the country and Latin America, making it to some of the Best Songs of 2011 countdowns in mexican radio stations such as Ibero 90.9 and Reactor 105. Another single from this EP was "Hombre Esquleto", also featured in many radio stations. Due to the band's sudden growth, after playing in different cities and Mexico City's most important venues, as well as several shows and festivals, the band gets invited to Vive Latino festival for the first time. With only one EP in their discography, URSS bajo el árbol decides to release a new song called “Las aves sin alas” right before their Vive Latino performance. This track became an anthem given the times and situation that Mexico and its youth are going through. This theme was also promoted in several alternative rock radio stations all over the country and latin america. In june 2013, the band releases their first LP titled "7" on Intolerancia Records with a succesfull release show at Casa del Lago (UNAM), this album contains the singles "Los Hilos de Dios" and "El Predicador" demonstrating a more mature and evolved sound. After their second participation at Vive Latino Festival, a celebration show for the anniversary of the album release ocurred exclusively for their fanbase at the Franz Mayer Museum. In their ongoing short career, URSS bajo el arbol has shared the stage with national and international artists like Zoé, TV On The Radio, Blonde Redhead, Modest Mouse, Peter Murphy,Arcade Fire, Cut Copy, Porter, Hello Seahorse!, Austin TV, Radaid, Descartes a Kant, Alex Otaola, Lost Acapulco and Todd Clouser to mention a few, and also been part of important festivals such as FILIJ, Rock X La Vida, Vive Latino, 72810, Día de Campo Albino, El Regreso del Coco, Festival Marvin among others. The band is currently in a national tour promoting their most recent LP, which can as well be purchased in stores, iTunes, Google Play and Spotify Dezzer.
