TOFFEE is a Taiwan-based crossover pop group that fuses elements of traditional meets modern, and east meets west. Named after the confection made by boiling together caramelized sugar with butter, TOFFEE integrates the traditional Chinese classical instruments of "erhu" - a two-stringed spike fiddle, "pipa" - a four-string pear-shaped wooden picked lute, and "guzheng" - a 21 stringed plucked zither with movable bridges; with modern pop/dance music featuring an emcee rapper.
The band consists of vocalist Debbie, a Brazilian-born Taiwanese descendant with Broadway singing background; guzhengist Kaye, a classically trained guzheng player of more than 18 years; erhu & pipa player Yuna, classically trained player mastering in multiple Chinese classical instruments; and rapper MC GaWeed, who started off as an emcee-cum-rapper at a local club in Taipei.
