Memphis native Jo’zzy grew up immersed in music. With her mother a part of Willie Mitchell's famed Hi Records, her mom was a solo recording artist herself and raised Jo’zzy surrounded by music and creativity. At the age of 5, Jo’zzy's older brother, an aspiring rapper, was sent to prison. The sudden void became a source of inspiration, as she found many of his cassettes. Over the years Jo’zzy's brother, John, encouraging her to explore her love of different styles of music in her own original manner.
Jo’zzy eventually left her hometown of Memphis and moved to Miami, Florida to partner with super producer Timbaland’s protégé, Wizz Dumb and DUMB DRUMBS productions as a songwriter. A pivotal moment in her career quickly came when singer/songwriter/producer Missy Elliot reached out in admiration of Jo’zzy style and tone.
“Missy was the real reason for me wanting to pursue my career as an artist,” Jo’zzy recalls.
Fast forward to 2014 which has brought even more good news, as Jo’zzy was ofMicially signed to BMG Records and was given the green light for her Mirst single, “Tryna Wife” produced by Wizz Dumb Feat. Timbaland. The hype around the artist and her nostalgic 90’s sound and look quickly reached the ears of hip hop legend Mase, eventually leading to their collaboration on a new version “Tryna Wife” which will be released this summer.
