Beyond Genre: How To Better Connect Fans w/ Music
In the very near future, genre will no longer be the primary way of classifying music. Not only are both fans and artists chaffing against the limitations of an archaic system designed for physical stores with limited shelf space, music services are competing with each other to find new ways to intelligently deliver the right music at the right time in ways simple genre classifications can’t provide. The metadata and tagging capabilities of digital files to classify music by mood, activity, location, and even crowdsourced custom definitions allows for far greater flexibility. This panel will examine the technical possibilities and execution of moving to a post-genre music world.
