Immersing an audience in a story goes beyond the page, projector, or controller—it’s the ability to surround people in fiction, the blending of reality and fiction with each medium building upon the other. ENDGAME is the groundbreaking interactive project led by best-selling author James Frey of the trilogy of ENDGAME novels from HarperCollins. James will be accompanied by John Hanke, VP of Google’s Niantic Labs, developers of the real-world adventure game Ingress, as well as the ENDGAME mobile adventure game. The two creative minds will discuss the way they are collaborating to create a unified, immersive world that moves seamlessly from books to games to movies, with an accompanying real-world, multimillion-dollar treasure hunt to bring people in even closer. They will talk about the way they are merging story with social activation and interactive real-world experiences in new and exciting ways, using technology to build an incredible digital experience on top of the real world.

John founded Niantic Labs as an independent group within Google to explore new kinds of mobile game applications at the intersection of mobile, location, social, and with an eye toward an emerging class of wearable devices. The group has launched two very well received products to date—Ingress and Field Trip—with their third product, Endgame, currently in development. Prior to Niantic, John founded and was CEO of Keyhole, Inc., which launched the first ever online 3D globe based on satellite imagery and mapping data. The company was acquired by Google in 2004, where it relaunched as Google Earth. At Google, John was VP of the "Geo" group, which launched a number of innovative projects including scaling up Maps and Earth to cover the entire world, launching a fleet of Street View cars, creating an innovative aerial photography platform, creating Google’s own global base map, and many more.Hide the rest
