World Leaders on Twitter: What They Can Teach Us
World leaders are among the most followed personalities on Twitter. Their online influence however doesn’t always match their real-life influence and their style and engagement are often at odds with both the image we have of world leaders and the one we have of success on Twitter. Done well, however, Twitter can enable leaders to increase their klout and that of their country beyond what one would expect. World leaders on Twitter and their communication teams face many challenges:
• How to be personal and at the same time aligned with one’s government political direction?
• How to deal with leader profiles once they have moved on to other responsibilities?
• Does a conversational style suit a world leader online or does it send the wrong signal?
These challenges are not unique to world leaders and are shared by many business leaders and entrepreneurs. This session aims to share best practices from world leaders and to bust myths about what true leadership means on social media.
