In early 2013 singer and multi-instrumentalist Robert Laupert loaded all his belongings into a van and drove to Budapest, to create his very own music in the relative solitude of this foreign city. Drums, guitars, pedal steel, piano, sepia-coloured brass – Laupert played all of them himself, in the little apartment in the Jewish quarter, and interweaved them into a both natural and mysterious musical tapestry. This time in Budapest constituted the origin of L’aupaire.
He sings from the perspective of a songwriter, but mixes a secret into his songs, tender and approachable at times, and now and then with the guttural brokenness of the old blues-masters. Because Laupert consequently searched and found his very own, we can now experience it. First to Budapest, then to the inside, and now out into the world.
