In 2014, the world’s leading tech companies released their workforce employment data for the first time, revealing just how vastly underrepresented people of color and women are in the sector. Nevertheless, the release of this data offered an important starting point to develop and carry out strategies to diversify the tech and entrepreneurship pipeline. This panel explores current and emergent efforts and thinking behind ways to create a tech sector that is led by and works for all.

Freada Kapor Klein, PhD, Co-chair, Kapor Center, is an entrepreneur, activist and leader in the field of organizational culture and diversity. Freada is a pioneer in developing models for revenue and sustainability of non-profits, and is an active advisor and mentor to social entrepreneurs. She is also an advocate for entrepreneurs from underrepresented backgrounds, especially people of color and women.
Dr. Klein was the first Director of Organizational Development, Training & Employee Relations for Lotus Development Corp. Her consulting firm, Klein Associates, specializes in employee surveys, training, and consulting on all forms of bias, harassment, and discrimination in the workplace. Klein’s client base ranges from Harvard Business School to the World Bank to top tier international professional services firms, and tech start-ups.
In 2001 she founded the Level Playing Field Institute, a non-profit promoting innovative approaches to fairness in higher education and workplaces.Hide the rest

Lisa Lee, diversity program manager, Pandora, spearheaded the creation of the company’s first diversity strategy and program. Prior to this, Lisa spent 7 years at Facebook and founded it's Asian American and Pacific Islander Employee Resource Group.
Lisa is cofounder of Thick Dumpling Skin, a community forum dedicated to discussing body image issues and eating disorders in the Asian American community, with actress Lynn Chen. The site was picked by Audrey Magazine as one of the best blogs of '11 and the duo is featured in the April '13 issue of Marie Claire. Thick Dumpling Skin was also honored last year with the Embody Award by About-Face.
Lisa served as the pro bono publisher of Hyphen Magazine, an award-winning publication and website that covers Asian American arts, culture, and politics. She is listed on Angry Asian Man's list of 30 Most Influential Asian Americans under 30 in '09 and is the recipient of the '11 SF Emerging Leader Asian American Heritage Award.Hide the rest
