Less than 5% of the world's oceans have been explored at depth. In other words, 95% of the ocean remains unseen by human eyes. Only three people have ever journeyed to the deepest known point of the ocean (the Mariana Trench), while 500 have traveled into space. We know more about the dark side of the moon than we do about our oceans, the lifeblood of our planet, and we have better maps of the surface of Mars that we do of the ocean floor. Why is this? Could the oceans hold the key to unknown energy alternatives, medical treatments, or food sources?
