Artists + the Affordable Care Act: Get Answers, Get Covered

According to a recent survey, US-based artists are less likely to have health insurance than the general public. They are also unsure about the Affordable Care Act and need advice about how to navigate this new health care landscape. Drop in during this workshop for one-on-one guidance regarding how to insure your band, whether or not you'll have interstate coverage, and how to navigate this new Health Insurance Marketplace.

Andy Bernstein

Exec Dir

HeadCount Inc

Andy Bernstein helped found HeadCount in 2004, and became its executive director in the Spring of 2008. He spearheads the organization's fundraising, marketing, artist relations and strategic planning, under the guidance of HeadCount's board of directors.

He has been a featured speaker at SXSW twice before, and also appeared as an expert commentator on ABC, CNN, MSNBC, Fox News and several other television networks. He also served as executive producer of a documentary called "A Call to Action," and produced public service announcements starring Jay-Z, Dave Matthews and members of Phish and the Grateful Dead, which aired on network television.

Prior to creating HeadCount, Andy was best known in the music community as an author of "The Pharmer's Almanac", a guide to the band Phish that sold over 70,000 copies. He also was a full-time journalist for over a decade, primarily as media editor of Street & Smith's SportsBusiness Journal. He later was Vice President of U.S. Corporate Development at Kangaroo TV, a sports technology company based near Montreal, Quebec.

A 1994 graduate of Brown University, Bernstein resides in a slopeside condo at the Mountain Creek ski resort, not far from New York City.

Jane spearheads HeadCount's relationships with musicians (both at shows and online), manages all HeadCount auctions (offering unique musical experiences) and helps plan and produce HeadCount events and campaigns.

In her spare time she's watching UFC, exploring NYC's good eats and catching as much live music as humanly possible.
