From Raw2IT - Colombia's Challenges in a New World
In the past decade there has been a lot of work in changing the image of Colombia, changing people and industries perception from a country that only makes coffee and related to “Juan Valdez”, and also a more common perception of Colombia as a dangerous country and ignore anything else related to the country. The presentation is going to tackle the themes of how Colombia’s public and private organizations have been working together into changing the image of the country, at the same time growing its industry and introducing Colombia as a partner to the develop world.
The IT and Software sectors have received special support from the government. And with several world class software developers in the country leading the growth of the industry the expectations are high.
The challenges have been many, education, internal politics, regional conflict, international image are among the challenges discussed.
Sebastian Gomez is the Trade Representative in Central U.S.A. for Colombian IT and audiovisual companies. Working directly for the Colombian Government Trade Bureau, Proexport Colombia. He works closely with Colombian and North American companies in creating opportunities of nearshore teams that can help support the growing needs of the markets in the services industry.
He also works with different organizations in changing the perception of Colombia and promoting it as a viable partner for the local industry.
Prior to Proexport Colombia, Sebastian was General Manager at Frigorific el Paramo. He also worked as Import coordinator in IMUSA, the largest manufacturer of cooking products in Colombia. And as logistic coordinator of Nutresa, the 1st food producer of Colombia and 10th in Latin-American, planning the production and exports to more than 15 countries.
He worked as export coordinator at MVM Software Engineering, a top provider of software solutions for the energy and utilities sector.
