Flying Turns is a collective of Austin-based DJs. It began 4 years ago as a project to find and cultivate spaces for underground house, disco, and techno music in a city gripped by rock n roll, and still continues in that model. The group focuses on balancing performances between residencies at dance clubs such as Kingdom and Cheer-up Charlies and one-of-a-kind pop-up parties such as halloween warehouse events and summer boat trips. The group originally struck a common chord when discussing their individual record collections at a weekly saturday meet-up over Ethiopian food. The sound is diverse and tailored to the individual spaces. The individual DJs have their hands in other musical acts, produce music apart from the group, and collaborate on other projects in the city, and a Flying Turns party can always be seen as a place where everything comes back together.
