No Such Thing As TMI in Digital Health

#sxsw #DigitalTMI

Your health story has gone from a scatter of hand-written notes with a sketchy plot to a digital digest with volumes yet to come. And for the first time, you’re one of the authors. Your story is comprised of electronic health records, personal health records, self-tracking and mobile monitoring data, and social interactions, all connected by APIs. Is it TMI? Short story, novel, or blog: The format is up to you, but the benefits of collecting, accessing and connecting health data digitally are undeniable. In this session, Kaiser Permanente's Madhu Nutakki and Aashima Gupta will discuss how technology and meaningfully curated data are enabling health and wellness. Presenters will discuss the latest digital trends, including biometrics, mobile, wearable devices, APIs, and the platforms that bring them all together–with examples of what’s working now and what’s around the corner in health care. Let's have a discussion and write the next chapter of the digital health story together. This track is sponsored by Kaiser Permanente.

Jeffrey Benabio

MD, Physician Dir of Health Care Transformation

Kaiser Permanente

Dr. Benabio is Physician Director of Healthcare Transformation at Kaiser Permanente in San Diego, CA, where he leads projects such as Lean initiatives, telehealth, social networking for physicians, and digital healthcare delivery. In addition, he’s getting his MBA at The Rady School of Management (which he highly recommends for anyone who’s tired of those pesky free weekends). Both a board certified dermatologist and Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, Dr. Benabio has been an advocate for using social networks to educate and empower patients. He serves on several boards including the External Advisory Board for the Mayo Clinic Center for Social Media. He has become a sought after speaker on telemedicine, health innovation, and social networking. He writes a monthly column on technology and healthcare that is syndicated in Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Dermatology and other specialty news magazines. Being a skin doc, he’s frequently quoted in publications such as O, The Oprah Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, CNN, and WebMD. Perhaps, most importantly, Glamour magazine named him “Rock Star of Dermatology,” making him his niece’s coolest uncle. He can be reached at Benabio@gmail.com and is @Dermdoc on Twitter.
