When Social Media Escapes the Web

Ever see a Yelp sticker in a restaurant window? Or maybe you noticed a few Pinterest logos on clothing items on your last shopping trip? If not, there’s a good possibility you will soon, because there is increasing evidence of social media moving outside of the digital space and into the real world.
A number of stores are experimenting with ways to integrate social media into the physical environment in an attempt to influence customers’ purchase decisions. As this trend continues to evolve, it will be important to understand the implications it has on customers, advertisers, retailers and brands. Our primary and secondary research suggests that as these methods are adopted more widely, the entire concept of social media strategy will be transformed.
