The social media marketing space is booming. More and more advertisers are entering the space and social platforms are evolving quickly to catch up. It’s not easy being an entrepreneur in such a volatile space, but it sure helps when your spouse is in the same boat! Social start-up CEOs and married couple, Laura (SocialCode) and Tim O’Shaughnessy (LivingSocial), have found that bringing their work home with them has paid off. By sharing their social business experiences, they have each had success while remaining one step ahead of the rapidly growing landscape. In this keynote presentation, they will ask each other some tough questions about their individual challenges, how they are preparing for what’s next in social marketing, and how they can continue to learn from each other. Laura O'Shaughnessy



Laura O'Shaughnessy - Chief Executive Officer
Laura founded SocialCode to provide brands with the tools needed to build valuable communities. She works with clients on innovative ways to achieve their marketing goals using social media. Previous to SocialCode, she ran Business Development and Product Strategy for the Slate Group, focusing on advertising product development and strategic partnerships.
Prior to joining Graham Holdings (then The Washington Post Company), Laura worked for several DC-based consumer technology companies where her purview spanned from the business planning and partner development to the management and execution of large search engine and acquisition marketing campaigns. Laura holds an M.B.A. from the MIT Sloan School of Management and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Chicago.


Tim O'Shaughnessy



Tim serves as Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of LivingSocial. He sets and communicates the company’s core strategy, overseeing LivingSocial’s growth as a consumer brand. Since its inception in 2007, O’Shaughnessy has led the business to expand from its roots in Facebook applications into a marketing platform for both large brands and local merchants.

Before co-founding LivingSocial, Tim led the consumer product team at Revolution Health, a consumer-centric health care website. Prior to that, he served as a product lead for AOL, working closely with co-founder Steve Case. Tim graduated from Georgetown University with degrees in marketing & operations and information management. He has been named to the Washington Business Journal’s 40 under 40 list and Inc.com’s 30 under 30 list.
