Alpine
Meet ALPINE. Phoebe Baker (vocals), Lou James (vocals), Timothy Royall (keys), Phil Tucker (Drums), Ryan Lamb (Bass) and Christian OʼBrien (Guitar). Adding colour to Melbourneʼs musical landscape, Alpine formed in 2009 and have gone from strength-to-strength ever since.
Likened to Phoenix, Lykke Li and The xx, theyʼve held the mantle of triple J Unearthed Feature Artist and have found friends online, on air and on paper. Fusing synths with honeyed harmonies, hypnotic rhythms and bright beats, Alpine appeared on the scene with a set of demos that quickly caught the attention of music lovers across the country.
2010 saw the release of their debut EP Zurich which featured the singles ʻVillagesʼ (no. 2 most played on JJJ radio) and ʻHeartloveʼ (top 10 of most played on JJJ), and had fans and critics alike clamouring for more from ALPINE. ALPINE are back with their new single HANDS which is already at high rotation on triple J, the first cut from their forthcoming debut album due out on Ivy League in early 2012. Featuring the dreamy vocals of ALPINEʼs tag-team front women Phoebe Baker and Lou
James, HANDS is an exercise in ethereal pop, luscious in tone and restrained in delivery. Following successful tours alongside the likes of The Naked and Famous, Cloud Control, Sia and Sparkadia plus their own sold-out headline shows. ALPINE opened the mainstage at Splendour in the Grass earlier this year, and they are currently performing with The Jezebels on their huge sold-out tour of the country. ALPINE continually leave audiences in thrall. Theyʼre set to do it all again over New Years
Eve when they take to the stage at Falls Festival in both Lorne and Marion Bay and in January at the Southbound festival in WA. 2012 is set to be a BIG YEAR, aren't you glad we introduced you.
