Teeth & Tongue
BIOGRAPHY
Teeth & Tongue is the musical project of New Zealand born, Melbourne based musician Jess Cornelius. Armed with an old 505 drum machine, keyboards and electric guitar, Cornelius weaves her songs through pared-back rhythms and hypnotic guitar lines, creating a diverse and layered sound with dark and mysterious undertones.
In June this year Teeth & Tongue released her second album 'Tambourine' (via label Dot Dash / Remote Control) to a stella reception from Australian media. The Age gave it four stars, and The Vine called it "One of the best Australian releases this year."
As well as being named a feature album on Melbourne’s Triple R fm, Perth’s RTRfm and Radio Adelaide, Tambourine has been long-listed for the Australian Music Prize 2012 and awarded 12th place in Mess and Noise magazine’s 50 best albums of 2011. The first single, 'Unfamiliar Skirts' was nominated for Song of the Year at this year's The Age EG Awards.
Recorded with Simon Grounds (Kes Band, Laura Jean, Bird Blobs), Tambourine is the follow up to Teeth & Tongue's debut album Monobasic (2008), which received critical acclaim including rotation airplay on national broadcaster Triple J and Sydney's FBi.
In 2009 Jess performed on hit SBS television music show 'Rockwiz' as a guest musician. Teeth & Tongue went on to be profiled as a Triple j 'Next Crop' artist (2009), and performed at the Falls and Laneway festivals in Australia.
Upcoming 2012 performances include tour supports with J Mascis (USA), Sons And Daughters (UK) and EMA (USA).
Teeth & Tongue has also had the pleasure to perform in Australia with The Dodos (USA), Juana Molina (Argentina), Grant Hart of Husker Du (USA), The Mountain Goats (USA), The Duke Spirit (UK), Jonneine Zapata (USA) and The Drones, and in Europe with Lydia Lunch (USA), Dawn Landes (USA) and These Are Powers (USA).
