DWNTWN
“We're kind of a folk band, but we just happen to make electronic music. We listen to a lot of Johnny Cash, but we also love bands like Crystal Castles."
DWNTWN, an electro-pop band with catchy melodies and twinkling production stylings, came to be in the summer of 2010 when Jamie Leffler and Robert Cepeda both went through bummer breakups and spent most weekends driving from Los Angeles to San Francisco trying to get away. That eventually led to the two of them writing on-the-go folk song demos that they'd record to their iPhone. Then in early 2011 this dream team duo, Robert the multi instrumentalist / vocalist and Jamie the lead vocalist, transformed these early demos to songs that span genres from electro to new wave, to indie and pop. The band has been compared to everything from New Order, M83, and Sleigh Bells and have been covered by blogs such as Earmilk, RCRD LBL, Buzznet, Arjan Writes, Artist Direct, Paper Mag, Hype Machine and more. DWNTWN's mixtape "Midnight Ride" (presented by DJ Skeet Skeet) is available for a free download at www.facebook.com/dwntwnmusic and features new songs, cool remixes, and a couple of shining covers.
