Wonder Villains
Wonder Villains are Eimear Coyle, Cheylene Murphy, Ryan McGroarty and Kieran Coyle. They live in Derry, N.Ireland. Fresh out of high school (The girls got their A-Levels results in the Summer) the band have embarked upon an incredible journey which has seen them win the NI Music awards 'Contenders' title and secure management in No Dancing (who also manage General Fiasco) and Third Bar Music Development
Invitations by BBC Introducing to play the Radio One Big Weekend Festival were followed by support shows with The Human League, Scouting For Girls, New Young Pony Club, Casiotone For The Painfully Alone, The Undertones and General Fiasco.
What do they play? They play blistering joyous Anti-Pop, smashing through two-minute pop songs while cranking the distortion on their homemade keyboard sounds!
The Irish Times described them as “Fizzy, high-energy indie pop" and Hotpress Music Magazine said they produce “Sparkly-eyed teen pop at it’s very best”. It’s no wonder that they were also featured on Q Magazines "Track of the month" and "Ones to watch".
Their debut single 'ZOLA' (released Oct '11) received airtime in Ireland and the UK nationally; on BBC Radio 1 (Daytime & Specialist), Radio 2, 6 Music, XFM, Q, Absolute Radio, RTE 2fm, Phantom FM, Ocean FM, 98FM, Fm104 and Today FM. They also bagged their debut national TV performance on ESPN's Talk Of The Terrace show. Being the house band and playing the show out with their track "Zola" a quirky stomper telling tales of the Italian football legend Gianfranco Zola.
The single was also in the Top 5 Radio chart new entries in Ireland on the week of it's release, a week in which Wonder Villains embarked on their first UK tour in sold out venues across the Uk & Ireland supporting General Fiasco.
The band finished off 2011: with an invitation to perform ‘Zola’ in the legendary studios of Maida Vale for BBC Radio 1 for the Huw Stephens Show, with a nod from Q Magazine as their ones to watch and they performed on BBC 1 TV show 'Out of the Blue'.
They will release two more singles in early 2012 and have been confirmed for The Great Escape, Dot To Dot Festival and HMV's Next Big Thing.
Zola is still ranking up on airtime on BBC Radio 1, 6..and across radio in Ireland.
'Ferrari' is the new Single and it’s out on Feb 17th. Tour dates announced soon.
