Lanie Lane
Please meet the beguiling Ms. Lanie Lane. Adding sass to the smoky, sultry sounds of a bygone era, Lanie Lane (pronounced “Lannie”) is an undeniable talent who draws on the past and plants it very firmly in the here and now. Imbued with the spirit of Muddy Waters, and channelling the grit of Billie Holiday, Lanie Lane wraps the sounds of a golden age around a voice that is as rich and warm as it is sweet.
Her debut album ‘To The Horses’, is a collection of 11 songs that duck and weave through a heady mix of early rock ‘n’ roll, blues and rockabilly, serving up fantastic tales of love, lust, heartbreak and the importance of a good guitar - all delivered by one of the most undeniably distinctive voices and charming characters in Australian music. ‘To The Horses’ debuted at #12 on the Australian national album chart upon release.
Cramming as much touring, recording and general musical activity into the past 12 months as possible, Lanie has completed two US and UK tours, featured as a ‘First Sight” artist in The Guardian, performed to packed houses at major Australian festivals and toured with the likes of Justin Townes Earle, Fitz and the Tantrums and Brian Setzer, in addition to her own sold out national tours in her home country.
Somewhere in amongst all that, she found the time to accept an invitation from the one-and only Jack White to record a couple of tracks in his Nashville studio. The tracks ‘Ain’t Hungry’ and ‘My Man’ were then released on White’s own Third Man Records on 7” vinyl as part of the acclaimed Blue Series.
Ms Lane is set to take her timeless sound and irrepressible presence to a whole new level this year. Get ready.
