How Artists Work with Big Media to Grow Fanbase
A number of big media companies are breaking down the old walls and providing new platforms for emerging talent, exposing them to a wider audience, and making them a profit. As Senior Analyst at Billboard, Glenn examines the business side of the music business, from developments in digital technology and business models to the financial reports of public companies. He is regularly quoted as an industry expert by leading media outlets such as NPR and the Washington Post. Prior to working at Billboard, Glenn worked in sales, marketing and finance for a variety of music companies. In his free time, Glenn runs the occasional half or full marathon and, when possible, travels around the world (a recent trip to Senegal was his 34th country visited). Glenn has a BA from UC Santa Barbara and an MBA from Vanderbilt University. He resides in Nashville.
JOE CUELLO is Vice President of Creative Music Integration for MTV. In this role, he oversees the integration of music within MTV's long form programming, working closely with both established and independent artists expanding the connections and opportunities between music and television. Joe has launched several key music initiatives across MTV's on-air lineup including MTV's Guest Music Supervisor role, regularly welcoming established artists to score some of the network's marquee shows (Dashboard Confessional, Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker in "Laguna Beach" and Pete Wentz in "The Hills").
Joe has also created featured album tie-ins within specific programming (Rogue Wave for "Life of Ryan" and Santogold in the upcoming series "Exiled"). Prior to this role, he was music supervisor on numerous projects across MTV and VH1. In addition to his work at MTV, Joe music supervised films including Pharmhouse Productions' "Special Ed" and Ambulance Entertainment's "The Last Word".
He began his career in music for TV and Film out of a desire to combine several of his interests which include the arts, music, design and production. Joe has a B.A. in the Fine Arts from the University of North Texas and a Masters in Education from Azusa Pacific University.
Ian Rogers, CEO
Ian has been helping artists make the most of the web since 1993. Until April, 2008 he was VP and General Manager of Yahoo! Music and Yahoo! Video. Previously he was President & CTO of Mediacode (sold to Yahoo!), Pres. of New Media at Grand Royal, Webmaster at Nullsoft (sold to AOL) and CTO at rVision. He dropped out of a Computer Science PhD program in 1995 to assist Beastie Boys on tour. He holds a BA in Computer Science from Indiana University.
