Kate X Messer has logged over three decades in media. From college newspaper editor-in-chief, to alternative music radio jock and indie record label prez, to all facets of the publishing industry, Kate's always soaking in communication. She's a veteran of SXSW and The Austin Chronicle (with the paper for 18 years). Currently, she is a senior editor specializing in mentoring interns, producing features and special sections ("Best of Austin," "Pride Guide," etc.), wrangling the weekly "After a Fashion" column, and promulgating the Gay Place listings and blog. She has extensively covered Austin's public service and queer communities, taking special interest in social justice and underserved populations. She hails from Florida, adores New Orleans, brainy tomboy femmes, key-limes, and long walks on the beach, is an all-vinyl DJ (SO SEND HER SOME RECORDS), and takes pride in her status as Eastside homeowner, AmeriCorps/TX State Bobcat mom, and gay uncle to anyone who needs one.
