Learn the power of the pitch in The Pitching Palace. Whether you are an indie filmmaker who needs to pitch his idea to investors or a screenwriter who wants to sell their script to Hollywood or a documentary maker trying to get their doc on TV…you need to learn the art of pitching to be successful.
You’ll learn how to write a logline, an expanded pitch, and how to present yourself as someone the buyer wants to work with. This panel will be an interactive workshop to prepare you for the first step in marketing your film
Come with pen and paper and a couple of films you want to sell. If you don’t already have one written, then come with an idea you have for a movie. Secrets will be revealed.
Presenters
Dr. Bonnie Orr, writer of over forty screenplays, completed the graduate level screenwriting program at UCLA. Her credits include writing and producing credits for The Lights, Corruption.gov and Secret at Arrow Lake at Ranch Studios, where she served as the studio manager for three years. Her production company Palm Tree Productions is in development on three projects (Something in the Water, Flyover Austin and Full Contact). Her agent is Mickey Freiberg at the new Grace Talent Agency (LA).
Suzanne Weinert in an independent writer/producer who began her career as the VP of Shoelace Productions, participating in the development and production of more than 25 projects including Erin Brockovich, Stepmom and the award winning wildlife documentaries Nature Series: Wild Horses of Mongolia and Orangutans of Borneo as well as the award winning short film The Call Back starring Sam Rockwell.
Her recent screenplays include Shrinking Violet for Revolution Studios; Road Stories, directed by Steven Seebring and released February 2004; Good to the Last Drop, a finalist for Best Comedy at the Austin Film Festival; ExTerminators, a dark comedy (starring Heather Graham, Jennifer Coolidge, Amber Heard) which premiered at SXSW 2009; and Ghost PaSSenger, a teen horror story.
Suzanne is currently in pre-production on the drama Scenic Route. Her western The Legends of Hell’s Gate, starring Eric Balfour, Henry Thomas, Jenna Dewan, Summer Glau, Robert Buckley and Lou Taylor Pucci opened in theaters Feb 2012 and she is set to begin production in Spring 2011 on a race car movie, One.
Flatiron Pictures is also developing the futurist thriller Stallworth, written and to be directed by actor James Lafferty (star of One Tree Hill) as well as the family movie Hannah's Dream, based on the best selling book by Diane Hammond. Gary Fleder (Runaway Jury, Kiss the Girls) is attached to direct.
Suzanne holds an M.F.A. from the School of the Arts, Columbia University; a Graduate Certificate from The Writing Program, Columbia University and a B.A. in Writing from Columbia University. She is a Professor of Advanced Screenwriting at both the School of Visual Arts, NYC and Fordham University, NYC.
Kat Candler's award-winning films have screened at Sundance, SXSW, Slamdance, Florida Film Festival, Tribeca's Kid's Series, Houston Museum of Modern Art, Chicago International Children's Film Festival, The National Institutes of Health, and on PBS. Her latest teen thriller screenplay Love Me was produced by Dolphin Entertainment and Anchor Bay Films for release in 2012.
