Putting a Carbon Footprint in Your Production Bid

#sxsw #CarbonFilm

Everyone knows that if we carry on acting as though we are the last people on this planet, this might just turn out to be the truth.

The Carbon Film Quote was initiated on the premise that you will manage what you measure, and on the simple idea that the data you enter into any production bid, is almost all the data you need to calculate the carbon footprint of your film. Putting the carbon footprint into a competitive quote creates a competitive incentive to reduce environmental impact. Beyond that, the film industry influences a wide spectrum of suppliers, snowballing sustainability practices all over the world.

Is this “green-washing”? Will a client pay more to emit less CO2? Isn’t this too complicated and time-consuming? Isn’t offsetting easier? Are we going to choose a director according to their carbon footprint now? These and other issues will be discussed in this workshop.

Mick Ebeling founder | ecd | ep The Ebeling Group

Mick's quest to make cool stuff has been relentless. For the last 10 years, he and the other insomniacs at The Ebeling Group - have been making things like James Bond main titles, Grammy nominated music videos, commercials for Fortune 100 brands, and Cannes Lion winning branded content.

2 years ago Mick was inspired by his friend, ALS patient and famous street artist, Tempt, to create something that would allow Tempt to draw again. After a year of planning and scheming, in April of 2009, Mick flew 5 programmers and hackers from around the world to Los Angeles and in the living room of his home, The Eyewriter was born. The Eyewriter - the first project of The Not Impossible Foundation - is an open source, low-cost, DIY device that gives anyone suffering from paralysis the ability to draw again using only their eyes. The documentary feature film of the journey of the Eyewriter's creation, "Getting Up," will be completed in 2012.
