Built by three guys with little proper musical training or ambitions of fame, Heavy Eyes is a band born in a garage. Drummer Eric Garcia, vocalist/guitarist Tripp Shumake and bassist Wally Anderson bonded over a common love for Sabbath, Zeppelin, Cactus, Mountain, Hendrix and those names that still dominate conversations about the first great era of heavy rock. While their sound won’t come across as hero worship, part of the Memphis area trio’s calling card is their intelligent incorporation of the dynamic facets of what made those bands legendary: lean, terse musicianship, economical song structures and no frills, bare-bones rock and roll.
