La Santa Cecilia
La Santa Cecilia consists of accordionist and requintero Jose Carlos, bassist Alex Bendana, percussionist Miguel Ramirez, and lead vocalist La Marisoul, whose captivating voice sings about love, loss and heartbreak. Their influences range from Miles Davis to The Beatles, Zeppelin to Janis Joplin and Mercedes Sosa to Ramon Ayala. Ther common love of music and openness to all genres led them to the concept of La Santa Cecilia in 2007 – named after the patron saint of musicians.
Over the course of the last few years the band has really hit it’s creative stride and lately the awareness of the group has been at an all-time high. Their song “Chicle” was featured on the Emmy award-winning series Weeds (Showtime), the independent feature Dish, The band made an on-camera appearance on HBO's Emmy award-winning hit show Entourage; the episode also featured the songs "Chicle" and "El Farol". The band also held a two- week residence for the L.A. Philharmonic- sponsored children's show Summer Sounds, where they performed their songs and acted so as to educate the community of Los Angeles on their very own cultural treasures. The band recently were invited to perform at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC where they performed to a overflowing standing-room only audience and at Globalfest at the historic Webster Hall as well as being personally invited by Los Lobos to perform at their inaugural festival in Los Angeles. La Marisoul has been invited by the likes of Elvis Costello, Los Lobos.
The band was signed in 2010 to indie label Rebeleon Music Group headed by multi-GRAMMY and Latin GRAMMY winning producer Sebastian Krys. The band’s maiden record with Krys Noches Y Citas was nominated for a 2011 Latin GRAMMY for the song “La Negra”. The band’s second record El Valor was released in 2012 and was named one of the top records of 2012 by NPR (ALT.LATINO). This attention lead the band to Univeral Latin where the band has signed on with and is making their next record with Krys at the helm once again. 2013 is poised to be anther watermark year with more festivals booked later in the year and the promise of new awesome music.
