BIOGRAPHY
Times are good for anarcho-anglo storytellers Jim Lockey & the Solemn Sun and their blend of country-folk and indie-punk. After signing with Xtra Mile Recordings (home to Frank Turner, Future of the Left and Against Me!) and releasing their second album “Death” in April, the band has had a real roller coaster of a year. They played rapturously received sets at festivals across the globe (including SXSW and 2000trees), smashed through two UK headline tours, received praise from Radio 1’s Zane Lowe and backed Frank Turner at the Olympics Opening Ceremony to an estimated audience of 25million people.
Featuring the singles “Wishing Well”, “A Song About Death” and the towering “England’s Dead”, “Death” wonderfully encapsulates the band’s vast sound as the young quartet draw from a plethora of influences including alt.country, folk and hardcore punk. Coupled with a strong political ethic and a “play-till-you’re-dead” attitude, it’s a truly arresting record crammed with hook-filled harmonies, innovative rhythms and passionately honest lyrics, surely making JL&TSS one of the most exciting new bands in British music.
Their non-stop touring ethic shows no sign of slowing down as the band joined Frank Turner in November 2012 for his huge UK full band tour. Jim went on to support Frank throughout Ireland and Scotland when they both played December solo shows and now a mammoth 5 week UK headline tour in February 2013 will be followed by appearances at SXSW, a 2 week jaunt in Europe and a selection of UK/EU festivals this summer.
