Mai Khoi

Mai Khoi, known as the Lady Gaga of Vietnam, reached stardom in 2010 when she won the country’s highest award for songwriting. She sparked a nationwide debate about political participation when she nominated herself to run in Vietnam’s 2016 parliamentary elections. Since then, Mai has been detained at the airport, evicted twice, and effectively banned from singing in Vietnam. In 2018, Mai released an album about her journey, “Mai Khoi Chem Gio – Dissent.”
