Lexi Todd

VP, Business & Legal Affairs
Primary Wave Music

Lexi Todd is an in-house attorney and Vice President of Business & Legal Affairs at Primary Wave Music, where she handles contract drafting and negotiation for Primary Wave’s music publishing, recorded music, artist management, film & TV, and marketing and branding divisions, as well as various business and operational functions. Lexi is an integral part of the acquisitions team at Primary Wave, helping to solidify Primary Wave’s place at the frontline of music acquisitions involving iconic and legendary acts. After joining the company 9 years ago as a legal intern, she quickly rose through the ranks to her current position as Vice President, where she oversees valuation, due diligence, negotiations, and closings on high-profile deals, including for the catalogs of Sarah McLachlan, Luther Vandross, and Bing Crosby. Lexi speaks frequently at industry events, including panels for Mondo, Billboard, and the Copyright Society, and is a member of the Recording Academy, the Copyright Society, and Primary Wave’s internal DEI Task Force. As a member of the DEI Task Force, Lexi volunteers her time to assist organizations like Save the Music, the Allee Willis Foundation, and Music Forward, which all share a core focus of supporting young people in underserved communities as they break into the music industry.

Lexi was featured in Billboard Magazine’s 2021 “40 Under 40, List of Trailblazing Young Music Executives” and Variety Magazine’s 2022 “Hollywood’s New Leaders” list. Lexi is also a lifelong singer, songwriter, performer, and producer (artist projects include her band “Chevy Lopez” and her solo project “Lexi Todd”), and that balance between artistry and industry provides her with a unique set of intellectual and emotional tools that she uses to navigate the ever-changing landscape of the music industry with both respect for creators and passion for progress. As both and artist and industry person, Lexi feels strongly in creating opportunities to not only inspire change but also to unite people around shared missions. She is particularly passionate about mentoring developing songwriters, artists, and music business professionals, which is why she is extremely excited about the possibility of becoming a SXSW mentor.

Lexi graduated from Brooklyn Law School in May 2016, cum laude, and was admitted to the New York State Bar in 2017. Prior to law school, she earned her B.A. degree in Political Science from Monmouth University, magna cum laude, with minors in Philosophy and Spanish.
