Mat Bancroft

Mat Bancroft is the curator of the British Pop Archive, part of the University of Manchester Library’s Special Collections. Launched publicly in 2021 the British Pop Archive is dedicated to collecting pop culture, youth culture and counter-culture materials, preserving them for the nation.
Prior to developing and launching the BPA, Mat curated, consulted and assisted on various exhibitions including Use Hearing Protection: The Early Years of Factory Records at Science + Industry Museum, Manchester. FAC 1-50/40 at Chelsea Space, London. True Faith at Manchester Art Gallery and Vogue 100 at Manchester Art Gallery.
As an archivist he has worked on various archives including the archive of Derek Jarman, Rob Gretton, Tony Wilson, New Order and Johnny Marr.
