Mio Kamioka

Mio Kamioka, an Indigenous Melanesian woman of Papua New Guinean and Japanese heritage, is an aquatic biologist, Indigenous sustainability scholar, and advocate for environmental justice and Indigenous rights. Mio holds a B.S. in Environmental Science, minor in Peace and Justice Studies, and an M.S. degree in Tropical Conservation Biology and Environmental Science. As Director of Research and Outreach of EarthRM, she bridges Indigenous knowledge and world views of Oceania with cutting-edge science to foster ecological and cultural healing across diverse communities. Mio is also passionate about science communication, making Western science accessible, and amplifying Indigenous science. Her mission is to drive resilience and restoration across Hawaiʻi, Papua New Guinea, and greater Oceania.
