David Stephen Muntz
David Muntz, a 35-year veteran of HIT, currently a Principal and co-Founder at StarBridge Advisors, began his career as a biostatistician, then became CIO, and ultimately rose to the position of CEO at Wadley Research Institute and Blood Bank in Dallas, TX. He later worked as the SVP & CIO at Texas Health Resources and Baylor Health Care System prior to 2012, when he accepted a White House appointment to serve as the first Principal Deputy National Coordinator and CIO at ONC (Health and Human Services’ Office of the National Coordinator) until 2013. David returned to the private sector as CIO of GetWellNetwork through 2015 where he served as a member of the Board of Directors until its sale in 2018. David has served on more than 25 other Boards.
He teaches 2 HIT related leadership courses for the Baylor University EMBA program. He has Fellow and Life status at CHIME where he served on the Board and led Advocacy efforts. He has also been active with HIMSS at all levels and enjoys Fellow status. David currently serves as an Executive-in-Residence for the Scottsdale Institute.
I have been an Adjunct Professor teaching 2 courses per semester at Baylor's Hankamer Business School EMBA program since November 2016. My mentoring began in the 1980’s with the American Business Women’s Association. Summary of mentoring in chronological order from oldest to most recent:
• Mentored members of D/FW women’s organization - 1980’s
• Led IT mentorship program at THR – 1997 to 2006
• Mentored CIO through CHIME’s mentoring program
• Was on faculty of CHIME CIO Boot Camp (10 camps beginning May 2006 through 2011)
• Established mentoring program at BHCS to help train next generation leaders – 2007 to 2011
• Mentored two students from the Baylor EMBA program – 2016 to present
• As Principal at StarBridge Advisor, conducted paid for mentoring sessions with:
o CIO of Children’s Health Care System – 2017
o VP of data archiving vendor – 2023-2024
• Provided career counseling to dozens of people since the 1980’s
For more than 25 years in a row, he and his teams have received numerous national industry recognitions including CHIME’s Innovator of the Year at 2 different employers, and in 2014, David was recognized by the CHIME Board with its CIO Legacy Award. David attributes all his accomplishments to collaboration with incredibly talented people and the strong support from his family.
