Founder & Ceo
NEXX Consulting Group

My name is Vance Jackson CEO, NEXX Capital Group and I am writing to express my interest in joining SxSW as a Venture Capital Mentor. Given my extensive background in business, venture capital, and strategic development, I am confident in my ability to contribute significantly to your mission of supporting and empowering Black and Latinx entrepreneurs.

Allow me to provide a brief overview of my professional background:

I currently serve as Principal Consultant at NEXX Consulting Group, a multifaceted consulting firm renowned for delivering bespoke solutions tailored to the unique needs of the nonprofit, government, and corporate sectors. With over 17 years of experience across Business, Community, Government, and Philanthropy, I have demonstrated expertise and leadership in various Board and Executive leadership capacities.

My tenure in the Mayor’s Office of the City of Detroit as the City’s Social Impact Fund Development Officer stands out as a pivotal role where I was part of a team that successfully raised more than $1 Billion in investments from diverse sources. This role honed my skills in forging partnerships and securing significant funding for impactful initiatives.

Prior to this, I spent over a decade at J.P. Morgan in their Commercial Bank—Middle Market Treasury division, where I specialized in constructing Global Treasury solutions for Multi-National Middle Market Corporations. My financial acumen extends to advising on corporate strategy and executing CSR recommendations, as evidenced by my service on the National Board of Huntington Bank’s Emerging Leaders Advisory Board.

Currently, I am also a lecturer at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, School of Social Work, where I teach Master-Level Graduate courses on social enterprise & entrepreneurship, evaluation, fund development, community organizing, and grant-writing. My academic role complements my practical experience, allowing me to bridge theoretical knowledge with real-world applications.

In addition to these roles, I serve as an Executive Board Member for several nonprofit and for-profit organizations across the United States and globally. Notably, I am a Venture Capital mentor to Techstars Detroit, an accelerator dedicated to supporting underrepresented entrepreneurs. My work with Techstars has further fueled my passion for venture capital mentorship, particularly in creating equitable access to resources and opportunities for diverse founders.

My leadership extends to the University of Michigan Black Alumni (UMBA) as Region Director and National Co-Chair for its Speakers’ Bureau. Furthermore, I have strategically led numerous leadership development platforms and Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, including my role as State Chairman and Global Board Member for J.P. Morgan’s Black Organization for Leadership Development (B.O.L.D).

As a frequent conference speaker, published author of six books, and a committed advocate for faith, family, finance, and leadership, I am dedicated to fostering growth and innovation within the entrepreneurial community. I hold both a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and a Masters of Social Work from the University of Michigan—Ann Arbor and actively serve on the Board of Governors for its School of Social Work.
