David Garcia
David is an Emmy award-winning Director / Screenwriter based in Austin, Texas. In 2020, he was chosen by Legendary Pictures to direct TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, a direct sequel to the original 1974 slasher classic. It released on NETFLIX (2022) with a staggering 29 Million hours viewed in the first week. David's directorial debut, TEJANO (2018), was acquired by HBO and released on television and digital platforms in 2020.
David was born and raised on the South Texas / Mexican border where he caught the filmmaking bug at a young age. He commandeered the family VHS camera and began directing his little brother in homemade action movies.
He attended film school at the University of Texas and remained in Austin to cut his teeth as a Cinematographer where he lensed 6 feature films and, through his production company, shot & directed everything from national TV spots and documentaries, to hundreds of product and branded content commercials in over a dozen countries on five continents.
In 2015, David refocused his career to pursue a project that would both draw on his personal experience and showcase the rich LATINX culture of South Texas. Inspired by Texas filmmaking legend, Robert Rodriguez, he returned to his hometown with a crew of 8 to produce and direct his debut feature film, TEJANO, an action-thriller about a young Texan’s desperate deal with a drug cartel on the border. Shot for 58k, David personally storyboarded every action / suspense sequence in the film in order to make his tight 23 day shooting schedule. The film premiered at the Dallas International Film Festival in 2018, winning the audience award.
Currently, David just finished writing a legacy horror franchise script for a studio and is attached to multiple other projects in the genre space. He is represented by Inclusion Management and WME and a member of both the DGA and WGA.
