Economist and business leader Byron Auguste is co-founder and CEO of Opportunity@Work, leading the national "Tear the Paper Ceiling" movement. This movement is focused on removing barriers for the 70+ million US workers Skilled Through Alternative Routes (STARs) such as military service, community college, workforce training, apprenticeships, and on-the -job learning, rather than a bachelor’s degree. He currently advises the US Secretary of Commerce, Gina M. Raimondo, on national competitiveness in semiconductors, advanced manufacturing, energy, infrastructure, and talent as an appointed Member of the National Advisory Council on Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Byron served as a White House economic policy advisor to President Barack Obama and Deputy Director of the NEC.
