David Ballard
Dr. David Ballard is a psychologist and organizational consultant whose work focuses on organizational effectiveness, workforce mental health, occupational health promotion, program design and evaluation, and systems-level workplace interventions. He has provided research, consultation, and training services to government agencies, industry groups, corporations, private equity firms, medical schools, and universities.
David currently serves as Scientific Director for the Mental Health at Work Index and Senior Scientist at One Mind at Work. He is on the boards of directors for The Health Project, which presents the prestigious C. Everett Koop National Health Awards, and Sound Mind, a non-profit organization that connects musicians, fans, and forward-thinking organizations to open dialogue around mental health, improve access to services, and reduce stigma.
During his time at the American Psychological Association, David led the association's Office of Applied Psychology, Center for Organizational Excellence, and Psychologically Healthy Workplace Program. He co-chaired the development of APA's strategic plan, as well as the association's workforce development strategy, and collaborated with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders to promote the use of psychological research, theory, and methods to address real-world issues.
David co-chairs the Advisory Committee for The Carolyn C. Mattingly Award for Mental Health in the Workplace and is a member of NIOSH’s Cross-Sector Council on Healthy Work Design and Well-being and the External Advisory Board for the Johns Hopkins P.O.E. Total Worker Health Center in Mental Health.
He received his doctorate in Clinical Psychology and his MBA in Health and Medical Services Administration from Widener University, where he completed concentrations in Organizational and Forensic Psychology.
