Norah Magero

Norah Magero is a Kenyan Mechanical Engineer and Renewable Energy Expert with over nine years of experience designing and managing off-grid renewable energy technologies. She is passionate about improving energy access in Africa, with a focus on diversity, equity, inclusion, and economic development.
Norah is the Co-founder and CEO of Drop Access, a social enterprise delivering affordable, practical energy solutions for underserved communities. Through its nonprofit arm, Drop Access promotes productive use of energy (PUE) by financing solar water pumps for farmers and distributing clean cookstoves to women and youth in rural areas. Its commercial entity produces VacciBox, an IoT-enabled, solar-powered portable refrigerator, designed and manufactured in Kenya. VacciBox bridges cold chain gaps for healthcare and veterinary services, ensuring safe storage and transport of heat-sensitive items like vaccines to remote communities. Under Norah’s leadership, VacciBox has delivered nearly one million vaccines and medical supplies in over 100 Kenyan communities and is expanding to Tanzania and Côte d’Ivoire.
A 2024 TED Fellow and IFC She Wins Africa participant, Norah is an alumna of YALI, the Microgrid Academy, UNITAR, Future Females Business School, Techwomen, and Acumen. Her accolades include the Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation by the Royal Academy of Engineering, Women in Energy Philanthropy Award, Engineering Innovation Award by the Institution of Engineers Kenya, and being named one of Kenya’s Top 40 Under 40 women by Business Daily Africa.
Norah serves on the UN's Council of Engineers for the Energy Transition (CEET) and has been recognized by global leaders, including former President Uhuru Kenyatta and USAID Administrator Samantha Power, for her efforts to advance energy access. Her work has been featured on BBC, CNN, Bloomberg, and even the UK Tube Map during National Engineering Day 2023.
