Patricio Riva Posse, MD

Dr. Patricio Riva Posse was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and received his MD from the Universidad de Buenos Aires. He completed a residency in Neurology, and then a second residency in Psychiatry, where he was chief resident in both programs. At Emory University, with the mentorship of Helen Mayberg, a pioneer in the use of deep brain stimulation for depression, he developed expertise in the management of patients receiving this novel treatment option. His career has focused on delivering treatment to patients with severe depression who stopped responding to conventional antidepressants. He is Director of the Interventional Psychiatry Service, where he coordinates non-invasive neuromodulation, and is an investigator in protocols researching deep brain and vagus nerve stimulation.
