Laya Kalima at Speakeasy
Laya Kalima is a Puerto Rican artist, singer, and songwriter from Caguas. Her musical journey began at 13, forming a band and learning guitar and vocals with her parents’ support. Inspired by her grandparents’ music, she started composing her own songs. At 18, Laya attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, where she developed a passion for Jazz, R&B, and Blues, drawing inspiration from artists like Peggy Lee, Lauryn Hill, and Ray Charles. After returning to Puerto Rico in 2019, she signed her first record deal with Full Harmony, releasing tracks with artists such as Brray, Joyce Santana, and YannC. Her debut EP, Agridulce, was released in 2022. Known for blending Latin pop with classic influences, her popular songs include “Puesto” and “Se Que Vuelves,” and she has performed at festivals like MotherLand in Puerto Rico.
