24 Cobras

Ivy Wei Chiu (they/them) is a queer non-binary filmmaker and community advocate with over a decade of craft as a Local 600 cinematographer. They contributed photography to Oscar-nominated documentaries Boys State and camera operated on narrative features such as Richard Linklater’s Apollo 10 ½. You’ve seen their work at SXSW, Tribeca, Sundance, on TV and streaming platforms.

As a Taiwanese immigrant raised in the Evangelical South, their artistic practice centers compassion and curiosity, inspiring intersectional dialogue between disparate communities.

Ivy is the founding partner of 24 COBRAS, a multidisciplinary film community. They are currently making I Need Space, a docuseries featuring Austin’s queer nightlife performers in conservative Texas as they create, defend, and reimagine spaces to heal and unite a community.

Programming descriptions are generated by participants and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of SXSW.
